One of the most useful pieces of outdoor equipment you can carry is a torch. Whether you’re walking back to camp after dark, looking for something in a backpack or navigating a trail in low light, a reliable torch can make the task much easier.
Why Carry A Torch?
Outside, the light levels can change quickly. You might not plan on being out after dark but unexpected delays, changing weather conditions or poorly lit paths can all make it useful to have a torch handy.
Even on shorter trips, many outdoor enthusiasts will carry one as part of their standard kit. A torch is also handy during power cuts and other times when you need temporary lighting.
How Bright Does A Torch Need To Be?
A modest level of brightness is often enough for general walking and everyday tasks. Larger and more powerful output torches can light up a larger area and show more detail at greater distances but they might also use more of your battery. Modern torches have multiple brightness settings, allowing users to adjust the light as needed.
Rechargeable Or Battery Powered?
Each option has its advantages. Rechargeable torches are handy and may reduce the need to purchase replacement batteries.
Battery powered models can be useful where it is not possible to charge up as spare batteries can be carried and swapped when required. The choice often comes down to personal preference and how often the torch is used.

Are Small Torches Good Enough?
